Course Description
This one-day training is facilitated by Associate Trainer Sara Powell. This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge necessary to work with Muslim and Middle Eastern communities. The focus is on fostering cross cultural understanding, sensitivity, and competence in therapeutic settings. Participants will explore the impact of acculturation and assimilation on identity and well-being, and broadly understand the specific challenges faced by these communities in navigating multiple cultural frameworks. Key objectives include: Cultural Sensitivity bridging the arts: Learning how to use art in a culturally responsive way, honouring traditional values and beliefs while creating a safe space for expression. Acculturation and Assimilation: Understanding the psychological and emotional impact of transitioning between cultures, including the challenges related to maintaining cultural identity and integration in a Western environment. Islamic Principles and Identity Formation: Gaining insight into a spectrum of Islamic teachings, collective culture and the significance of community (Ummah), modesty, spirituality and mindfulness, and how this shapes familial and/or personal identity and influence cultural practices, including artistic expression. Empathetic Practice: Developing skills for building trust and rapport, especially with clients who may have experienced prejudice, marginalization, trauma, or even displacement, and recognizing the role of art as a bridge. By bridging the arts with cultural competence, this training aims to equip participants with the tools to create meaningful therapeutic experiences that respect and incorporate the unique identities and experiences of Muslim and Middle Eastern clients individually, while also exploring bias and potential blind spots. Learning Outcomes: Gain understanding of Islamic Principles Gain understanding of Islamic principles shaping culture Gain understanding of theory: International Psychology, acculturation and assimilations Gain knowledge on how to further develop culturally sensitive working models. Gain knowledge on how to use art sensitively within Muslim communities. The course will run from 10am-4pm. Cost Self-funded £100 Employer-funded £130 Payment via invoice

The Centre for Creative Therapeutic Practice (TCCTP) Refund and Cancellation Guidance Policy and Conditions Joining information for all of TCCTP's courses will normally be sent 1-week prior to the start date - please check your junk & spam folders if you have not seen this information - contacting the office on the day or evening before the start date will not always be responded to prior to the course starting. All cancellations must be submitted in writing to hello@tcctp.org. Cancellations made one month or before will be refunded in full minus £10 administration fee. Less than one month but more than 14 days before the course will be charged at 50%. Less than 14 days' notice will be fully chargeable. Please Note • Programmes are subject to change. • It is the attendees responsibility to check their email including junk and spam folders for joining details. • There is a possibility that the course/event may be cancelled due to insufficient numbers, unforeseen circumstances, or force majeure. In the case of insufficient numbers or unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be offered. In the case of force majeure such as the Coronavirus pandemic, alternative dates will be offered. If these dates are not suitable, a partial refund will be offered taking into account cost of overheads • If TCCTP offer face-2-face training - Please do not book any travel or accommodation until you have received confirmation of your booking from TCCTP. We will not be liable for this cost in the event you are not booked onto the course/event. • Where fees for attendees are being paid by a third party (e.g. employer). TCCTP will endeavour to collect the course fee through invoicing. However, where the third party fails to make payment, the course attendee will remain liable for said fees if cancellation is not made on time within our terms (see cancellation our policy above).
