Drawing on professional, theoretical and lived experience, this course is designed for all levels of experience and will provide a sound theoretical grounding in current approaches to self harm and suicidality as well as providing practical approaches for managing highly emotive and challenging issues in therapeutic practice. By the end of the course participants will be able to: - Identify current theories of suicidality and self harm. - Identify the risk and protective factors related to self harm and suicide - Use these to assess risk in children, young people and adults from all backgrounds - Explore the strengths and challenges in personal and cultural understandings of suicide and self-harm - Understand the safety planning process - Formulate an approach for safely managing suicide ideation and self harm, within current practice.
