Course Description
This one-day course is facilitated by Associate Trainer Rachel Yang. Through providing a historical overview of doll making this course explores their rich history and profound therapeutic potential. From their origins in Palaeolithic rituals to their current role in creative therapy, dolls have consistently reflected human experiences, societal changes, and personal identities. Participants will explore diverse theoretical perspectives and engage with the work of various writers to understand the rich potential of dolls in therapy. The course will cover the following: - Trace the evolution of dolls from ritual objects to playthings and examine the blurred line between dolls as toys and symbolic artifacts. - Consider how dolls have mirrored fashion trends, technological advancements, and social shifts and discuss their importance to individuals and communities across time. - Explore the use of dolls in creative therapy as metaphorical representations of the self and others and investigate the rich symbolism inherent in doll-making and its therapeutic implications. - Gain insight into the historical and cultural significance of dolls. - Gain insight into the symbolism of doll-making through theoretical underpinnings of projection and symbolism; attachment and object relations; narratives; neuroplasticity, somatic and embodied experiences; Identity Formation and Self-Representation; Cognitive Restructuring, and, Social Constructionism. - Examine different ways to make dolls using fabrics, found objects, and cardboard. Theoretical underpinning: Attachment and Object Relations, Narrative approaches to therapy, Sensory motor development , Identity Formation and Self-Representation, Cognitive Restructuring, Social Constructionism. Through exploring and incorporating these theoretical perspectives, participants will deepen their understanding of the therapeutic potential of doll making. This multifaceted approach allows for a rich, nuanced exploration of clients inner worlds, fostering insight, healing, and personal growth. Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to: - Reflect on the historical development of dolls and consider key theories related to their use in a therapeutic context. - Design and implement adaptations of doll-based techniques for specific therapeutic practices and client population Cost Self-funded £100 Employer-funded £130 Payment via invoice

Cancellation Policy
The Centre for Creative Therapeutic Practice (TCCTP) Refund and Cancellation Guidance Policy and Conditions Joining information for all of TCCTP's courses will normally be sent 1-week prior to the start date - please check your junk & spam folders if you have not seen this information - contacting the office on the day or evening before the start date will not always be responded to prior to the course starting. All cancellations must be submitted in writing to hello@tcctp.org. Cancellations made one month or before will be refunded in full minus £10 administration fee. Less than one month but more than 14 days before the course will be charged at 50%. Less than 14 days' notice will be fully chargeable. Please Note • Programmes are subject to change. • It is the attendees responsibility to check their email including junk and spam folders for joining details. • There is a possibility that the course/event may be cancelled due to insufficient numbers, unforeseen circumstances, or force majeure. In the case of insufficient numbers or unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be offered. In the case of force majeure such as the Coronavirus pandemic, alternative dates will be offered. If these dates are not suitable, a partial refund will be offered taking into account cost of overheads • If TCCTP offer face-2-face training - Please do not book any travel or accommodation until you have received confirmation of your booking from TCCTP. We will not be liable for this cost in the event you are not booked onto the course/event. • Where fees for attendees are being paid by a third party (e.g. employer). TCCTP will endeavour to collect the course fee through invoicing. However, where the third party fails to make payment, the course attendee will remain liable for said fees if cancellation is not made on time within our terms (see cancellation our policy above).
