Course Description
This two-day course is facilitated by Mary Rose Brady and Dr Patricia Watts. Nice guidelines for Looked-after Children and Young People Published in 2021 state that Life Story Work is mandated by statutory guidance for all looked-after children and young people with a plan for adoption. Creative therapists can greatly support adopted and care experienced children and young people make sense of their life journeys within a safe and consistent therapeutic relationship. Combining theoretical understanding and practical applications, our course aims to equip creative therapists to engage meaningfully and safely to support children and young people in their life story work journey. This course will enhance professional competence and support better outcomes for children and young people. For qualified creative therapists and related fields only. This two-day training is underpinned by child development, attachment and neuroscience to support participants to - Understand the impact of trauma, including intergenerational trauma - Understand the significance of child development from pre-birth - Increase awareness of safeguarding issues - Work with the network around the child including parents and carers - Set appropriate goals for life story work - Use metaphor and creativity within the artwork to understand a child or young person’s narrative - Use creative activities to explore and capture a child or young person’s story in a developmentally appropriate way including traumatic events - Support children and young people to have agency and voice in the process of life story work Learning Outcomes - Working with child development, attachment and neuroscience this course supports participants to: - Better understand a child's attachment style to guide therapeutic approaches and help them understand relational patterns. - Safely explore strategies for building a trusting therapeutic alliance and repairing ruptured attachments through creative expression. - Understanding the Impact of Trauma, Including Intergenerational Trauma - Through emphasizing trauma-informed practices, to prepare therapists to hold sensitive narratives and provide safe, regulated spaces for expression. - Understanding Child Development from Pre-Birth - Supporting practitioners to understand the significance of traumatic prenatal experiences and early caregiving environments. Cancellation Policy
The Centre for Creative Therapeutic Practice (TCCTP) Refund and Cancellation Guidance Policy and Conditions Joining information for all of TCCTP's courses will normally be sent 1-week prior to the start date - please check your junk & spam folders if you have not seen this information - contacting the office on the day or evening before the start date will not always be responded to prior to the course starting. All cancellations must be submitted in writing to hello@tcctp.org. Cancellations made one month or before will be refunded in full minus £10 administration fee. Less than one month but more than 14 days before the course will be charged at 50%. Less than 14 days' notice will be fully chargeable. Please Note • Programmes are subject to change. • It is the attendees responsibility to check their email including junk and spam folders for joining details. • There is a possibility that the course/event may be cancelled due to insufficient numbers, unforeseen circumstances, or force majeure. In the case of insufficient numbers or unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be offered. In the case of force majeure such as the Coronavirus pandemic, alternative dates will be offered. If these dates are not suitable, a partial refund will be offered taking into account cost of overheads • If TCCTP offer face-2-face training - Please do not book any travel or accommodation until you have received confirmation of your booking from TCCTP. We will not be liable for this cost in the event you are not booked onto the course/event. • Where fees for attendees are being paid by a third party (e.g. employer). TCCTP will endeavour to collect the course fee through invoicing. However, where the third party fails to make payment, the course attendee will remain liable for said fees if cancellation is not made on time within our terms (see cancellation our policy above).
